Governance for church-owned enterprises

Church-owned and ministry-linked enterprises carry a particular risk: the trust that makes them possible also makes formal structure feel unnecessary. Roles are assumed rather than written, authorisation limits are informal, and the boundary between ministry funds and enterprise funds is understood rather than recorded.

Conflict, when it arrives, is rarely about dishonesty. It is about two people holding different sincere recollections of what was agreed. A governance instrument removes that ambiguity in advance.

Our Governance & Stewardship Advisory engagements produce three written outputs: an adopted governance instrument, a financial control and authorisation matrix, and a conflict-of-interest policy. These are ordinary institutional documents, and they protect relationships precisely because they are unremarkable.
